Viola Resources
The American Viola Society has a great website with lots of free scores, including music for solo viola and multiple violas (the arrangement we did of Pavane was from there!). They have a discounted student membership that gives you access to many additional resources. Members also receive their excellent publication, the AVS journal, which is published quarterly and has great articles on all things viola.
Here’s a link to the “Summer Viola Extravaganza” I sent all my college students that includes links to books, videos and podcasts on music in general, the viola, and other music-related topics.
OSAI Viola Chair Placement Excerpts
Hi OSAI Violists, I can’t wait to work with you this summer!
On this page you’ll find a video in which I introduce myself and perform the excerpts I’d like you to record for chair placement. In this video I also offer practice tips on each excerpt.
Below that you’ll find a link to download the excerpts as well as additional video resources to aid you in your preparation.
At the bottom of the page you’ll find the form to submit your video. Please submit your video no later than Wednesday, June 8.
Please make sure I can see BOTH your left and right hands in the video - you will likely need to set up the camera about 6 feet away to ensure both hands are visible. Optional: include a brief introduction of yourself at the beginning or end of your video!
Feel free to email me at tmaril@sdsu.edu if you have any questions, and see you soon!
