My American Viola Society Residency Videos

My last blog post featured my first video as the American Viola Society Digital Artist-in-Residence for January/February. I was so pleased and honored to have been chosen for this role, and enjoyed the process of making weekly videos, something I haven’t done in a long time!

Over the course of my residency, I covered what I consider to be some of the most important (and often neglected) topics on our instrument including:

  • Developing independent and nuanced control of the the left and right hands (the pat your head/rub your stomach conundrum)

  • How to cultivate stronger rhythm

  • The benefits of silent practice and slow practice (and what really is slow practice??)

  • Flipping the script on impatience in the practice room

  • My favorite resources for violists

  • And more!

For those of you that don’t use Instagram/Facebook, or just didn’t catch all the videos, I’ve collected them all here into one YouTube playlist. Click on the button on the top right corner (where it says “1/8”) to see all the videos in the series.

Let me know what you think in the comments!
